They leave nothing to chance

Data from TEMIS – Tropospheric Emission Monitoring Internet Service (www.temis.nl) is used for giving information of UV-levels on earth.

Screen-shot from www.temis.nl

Here is how TEMIS describe themselves.
“TEMIS aims to compute and deliver global concentrations of tropospheric trace gases, and aerosol and UV products derived from observations of nadir-viewing satellite instruments such as GOME, SCIAMACHY and (A)ATSR. TEMIS is part of the Data User Programme (DUP) of the European Space Agency (ESA)”
This sounds very scientific and altruistic until you add another small piece of information from a presentation, “L’Oréal and solar ultraviolet radiation” by F. Christiaens, L’Oréal Recherche, at Envisat Symposium – Salzburg, 6-10 Sept. 2004.
The implementation of the TEMIS service results from direct interactions with parties interested in the tropospheric satellite data products –here, namely L’Oréal and the Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI). The final choice of data sets that are delivered through TEMIS depends on the requests and requirements from L’Oréal.”
This shows how L’Oréal leaves nothing to chance when it comes to influence upon how scientific data is used for their sun-scare purposes.
However, even if they had hoped to be able to add to the fear by reports of a thinning ozone-layer, the data from TEMIS actually show no real trend in that direction, rather the opposite.
Although the purpose with the UV-reports from TEMIS is to support the sun-scare, they also turns out to be excellent tools for finding out where and when you can get UVB (and thus Vitamin D) from the natural sun.
The red areas on the charts above indicates just that.
Now you have two ways to discover the possibility to get Vitamin D from natural sun-light.  You can either go to www.temis.nl and look in their archive or you can use the calculation described in my blog-post and video here: http://thetanningguru.com/dutch-cancer-council-new-sunlight-recommendations.
And if you are planning a vacation-trip to a sunny place, the post might be usefull: http://thetanningguru.com/do-you-know-how-to-tan.
